BALLET

Through an anatomically based, traditional ballet class beginning with barre and followed by center work, Cheryl fosters a work environment conducive to learning and understanding the body. The class focuses equally on alignment and artistry and supports the long history of ballet. Cheryl makes the tedious work of ballet, fun, exciting, and interesting with metaphor, games, and intense hands on attention. She gives individualized attention and personal corrections from beginning to end no matter how big or small the class.

MODERN

Combining traditional modern techniques including Horton, Graham, Taylor, and Limon with contemporary improvisational techniques including basic Forsythe methods, Cheryl's modern class challenges the dancer to move from their center while exploring variations in weight transfer, direction changes, floor work, and spacial patterns. Starting with a very technical center warm up, the class then flows into progressions across the floor and culminates with center phrase work. Improvisation is sometimes included and worked in to the class flow. This class creates a technically grounded and artistically sound mover.

CONTEMPORARY

Class begins with a center based technical warm up focusing on mobilizing the spine and finding the floor. Following the grounding warm up, center phrase work is taught in a very detailed manor. Typically focusing on themes such as pathways, details, isolation, and muscle manipulation, Cheryl inspires her dancers to find the balance between creating their own voice within the movement and paying attention to the details of the combination. Phrases are worked on in smaller groups while Cheryl gives personal corrections and individual guidance to each dancer who takes the floor. Dancers are sure to leave feeling sweaty and inspired.

PROGRESSING BALLET TECHNIQUE

PBT helps in training muscle memory to help a dancer achieve their best in all dance training. Certified in PBT, Cheryl combines this program with her background in Pilates as well as strength training to produce a dancer who is equally skilled in flexibility, stability, and strength. Classes are typically one hour in length and include a very detailed and varied roster of exercises. Private classes and lessons can be scheduled to work on a clients specific weaknesses. Group classes target the full body.
